Awesomity
Well this is just grand! I guilt trip y'all fools and all of a sudden we get a little community going in the comment section. Discussions, debates, queries, observations, lashings, musings, belaborings, posturings, etc. Let the web-conferencing begin. But please, keep it in your original language, I want as little cross-Atlantic dialogue as possible. "Never the twain shall meet."
A short little story:
I encoutered my first "angry mob" today. We had parked our UN-car and someone had walked in to a protruding metal plate attached to the car. 30 people had gathered around it, each wanting apologies and/or donations. It was quite a scene, with various "policemen" making grand proclamations and everyone jumping in to make their suggestion to the situation. Nuts.
Also, here's a public service announcement for grandmothers and other worried souls: there is no need to worry about me, I am fine, things are fine. UN has a 12 o'clock curfew so the chances of me getting into trouble are slim.
Per Alex's comment, Emil is now ein Doktor. Congrats you old slag. Really proud of you. Check out the reaction in Liberia once the news spread. To say the least, Liberians love Emil:

Your blog has entertained me. Well done, you are still funny and smart...I wasn't sure, because it has been so long since I've seen you.
I will live vicariously through your adventures this summer, and hope that we see each other whence you return westward. I think you will be impressed, I am no longer a baby, animal, or retarded. (not sure if I'm allowed to use that last one, considering my grad school enrollment status, but it's for old time's sake, so we won't worry about it too much.)
